NEWS : WiMAX at 3GSM World Congress (Telephony Online)

Interesting analysis on Wimax future versus 3G. The author put forward that both Mobile WiMax related anouncement : Skype partnership with Hutchison and Alcatel mid-2006 readiness for a mobile with this technology boost Mobile WiMax. This standard was predicted to go to market around 2008, the pace may be quite quicker.

3GSM World Forum in Barcelone, still IMS focused ?

The 13th of February will start the 3GSM World Congress 2006, the top Mobile Event of 2006. Last year, at the same congress, taking place at Cannes, IMS was the buzz word and hi tech information website Lightreading.com was heading IMS Tops 3GSM Agenda, relaying the numerous communications made by companies on the topic. Now, this very site question the unanimity of the focus on this topic.

Convergent services bundles : a risk ??

An interesting article on bundle risk by Russell Shaw on Zdnet.com raise the issue of having the same source for all the media (one provider and one media - like ADSL or Cable for Internet, TV and Telephone). It may prevent us to use all of them if the source is broken. This is a starting point on a short discussion on this mono-source issue in convergent networks.

Toward IMS vision : who wants old standards end ?

IMS normative and partner bodies

After years of antagonism between telecom standards (GSM versus CDMA, SDH versus Sonet, IP versus ATM ...), they start to converge and we ear about an 'ultimate' norma : IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). " IP " because it is relying on IP-based transportation netwrok, "Multimedia" because it is managing any kind of communication / data flow, "SubSystem" because it is a part - the central one - of this super-network. Is this standard, pushed by the normalization group 3GPP, "The" future universal standard ? Let's try to answer observing who has interest that standard is adopted and who hasn't.

What Convergence-Blog is about

Now the English part of the Blog is being put on line. "Converge-Blog" is aiming to be an information and exchange crossword for all that are interested in Telecom CONVERGENCE : networks, terminals, applications : how, why and up to which point.
