Notes

(1) Q1 2005 estimates in italics are based on Q4 2004 + 10%

(2) Cox reported telephony subscribers multiplied by 5/17 as VoIP only available in 5 out of 17 markets served.

(3) Based on an analysis of minutes served. Actual ‘registered users’ is 30 million plus, but these may not all actually use the service on a regular basis.

(4) Reported number of users (2.75m in Dec 2004) times 0.2 (to adjust for downloads never used, inactive accounts etc). Even this number may be too high, as reports in April 2005 suggested VoiceGlo had stopped taking new retail customers since January 2005 and was losing money. The company was seeking new financing to stay solvent. The VoiceGlo story highlights the care that must be taken with VoIP numbers.

(5) Totals rounded to nearest 100,000. Because estimates are used, reporting more significant figures would give a misleading impression of how precisely this market can be measured.
